Plans have been submitted for a huge purpose-built student accommodation block in Sheffield which, if approved, could house almost 400 students.

Located on the outskirts of Sheffield city centre, plans for the PBSA block have been submitted by Sama Investment Group, the UK's first regionally-focused Shariah-compliant real estate investment manager.

Also supported by AXIS architecture, the application for the Maltravers Road site has been submitted to Sheffield City Council.

The development would see the construction of multiple buildings ranging in height from five to eleven storeys.

The unit mix for the 378-bed scheme will be 354 self-contained studios and 24 beds arranged in 6-bed cluster flats all equipped with en-suite bathrooms and shared kitchens.

Parking spaces for 27 cars are also included in the plans.

A statement submitted in the application said: "The scheme will transform a vacant/neglected site and secure its long-term future which will ultimately strengthen the cohesion of the existing community."

Previously occupying the site before its demolition was the Globe II Business Centre.

Planning permission had previously been granted for retirement homes and student accommodation on the site, but the scheme was never completed.
